Our Story
Over 50 years on Main Street
Golden Rooster is a small, family-owned and run diner on Main Street in Saco, Maine. We have served quality food at an affordable price since 1967, one hometown breakfast at a time.
Some restaurants come and go. Golden Rooster has stayed. For over 50 years we have been a fixture on Main Street in Saco, serving a wide selection of breakfast, lunch, and dinner specials to the people who live here and the visitors who find us. Over 50 years in one spot is not an accident. It comes from showing up every day and doing the simple things well.
A diner built for the neighborhood
From the day we opened in 1967, the mission has been the same: serve quality food at an affordable price. A diner is a neighborhood place. It is where regulars have their usual order, where families gather after church or before a game, and where a traveler can get a real meal without breaking the bank. We have tried to be exactly that for Saco and the towns around it for over 50 years.
The landmark rooster
Ask anyone in Saco where the Golden Rooster is, and they will point to the giant rooster sign on Main Street. Over the years it has become a small landmark, the kind of thing that tells you that you are home. We are proud of it, and proud that it has welcomed people through our doors for over 50 years. It is also why we keep a rooster at the heart of who we are.
Made from scratch, served big
Some things are worth doing the hard way. We make our own corned beef, which is the heart of our corned beef hash and our Irish Benedict. We cook to order. We serve generous portions because nobody should leave a diner hungry. That commitment is what keeps our regulars coming back and what surprises first-time visitors in the best way. Breakfast and brunch are what we are known for, especially our Benedicts and the Lobster Benedict, but the kitchen does far more, from lunch to Thursday dinner.
Fast, friendly, and fair
A good diner respects your time and your wallet. We keep service quick and friendly, whether you are grabbing a quick bite before work or settling in for a long weekend brunch. We offer takeout, there is a nice seasonal patio when the weather cooperates, and there is an indoor bar for those who want to relax. Free street parking on Main Street makes stopping in easy.
A seat for everyone
Locals, travelers, tourists, and workers all find their way to our tables. In the summer, we welcome the visitors heading to Old Orchard Beach who want a proper Maine breakfast before a day in the sun, along with the crews and commuters passing through. All year round, regulars make us part of their week. Whether it is a weekday breakfast, a weekend brunch, or dinner with the family, there is always a seat for you at the Golden Rooster.
Here for the next chapter
Saco has grown and changed over more than 50 years, and so have we, but the heart of the place is the same. We are still family owned, still on Main Street, still serving the food and the welcome that built our name. Come be part of the next chapter. Browse the full menu, order online for pickup, or just stop in and say hello. We would love to feed you.
